Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation

A Sub-Acute hospital is a self-contained fully functional independent hospital facility that treats stable patients with sub-acute conditions who require hospitalisation but do not require high technological diagnostic procedures, treatment or surgery.

Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of Medical Specialists, nursing staff and Allied Professionals such as Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists.

24 hour nursing care
Due to the nature of a sub-acute facility no patients with acute, life-threatening conditions will be admitted, however patients who do arrive at the facility will be stabilized before being transferred to the relevant acute hospital.

More cost-effective

IMG-20220104-WA0003

Procedures performed in Day Hospitals are more cost effective compared to acute hospitals.

Day Hospital Facilities provide a more relaxed, informal and less stressful environment for patients.

The incidence of drug resistant “hospital infections” are virtually zero.

Advances in medical technology, anaesthetics and less invasive techniques make it possible for procedures to be carried outsafely in Day Hospital Facilities.

Benefits for patients:

Minimum disruption – procedure done and discharged on the same day.

Risk of hospital acquired infections reduced.

Day hospital tariffs are charged according to scale of benefit.

More cost-effective alternative than acute hospital admission.

Procedures performed (not an exhaustive list)

  • General surgery
  • Dermatological
  • Ophthalmology
  • Urological
  • Ear, nose and throat
  • Gynaecological
  • Dental and maxilofacial
  • Orthopaedic

NOTICE

No maternity or patients requiring post-op ICU or high risk patients will be accepted, as these are patients that should be managed in an acute hospital even though their operation is classed in the day case category.

Private patients can be operated on and post-op inpatient care can be provided at the adjoining Sub-Acute Facility at highly competitive rates.
